Fundraising for Medical Treatment

A small contribution made a big difference in an UMTAAC Alumni’s daughter’s life.

An UMTAAC Alumni’s daughter, 13 years old, was diagnosed with Lipomyelomeningocele (a rare defect in which a fatty tumor grows from beneath the surface of the skin of the lower back toward the spinal cord, compressing and tethering the spinal cord from birth which led to a neurogenic bladder). Due to this condition, she has a weak bladder and lower limbs. As a result of which urine stagnates form in her bladder which can easily cause an infection. To prevent this, stagnated urine has to be removed by a CIC (Clean intermittent bladder catheterization) lifelong and she has to use pampers day and night throughout her life to manage the overflow incontinence in between catheterization.

She has foot drop and equinovarus deformity of the left leg (a congenital deformity of the foot in which walking is done on the toes and outer side of the sole.) She was using an ankle foot, orthosis-medically designed shoes, for nearly 11 years.

The UMTAAC Alumni, gave a consent to share his fundraising for his daughter’s medical treatment .

They live in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
